The 10th SPRING/BREAK Art Show explores the NEO-MEDIEVAL under our 2021 theme HEARSAY: HERESY — a cohesive concept inspired by a very different era of public pyres and plagues — with artworks touching on the double-vision of two very different DARK AGES overlapping one another. Expect feasts and flat perspectives, art heresies and altered views of religious transcendence, and so much more.

Returning to the highrise offices at 625 Madison Avenue, this year’s fair features 120+ curatorial projects that engage with the theme of HEARSAY:HERESY. Works will explore updating, in material or style, the practice of Medieval artisanship and/or deal thematically with conceptual heresy and the patently medieval: rumor, fabulism, theocratic dominion, public flogging in the literal or digital, sweet Hereafters, or the manipulation and misinformation of empires.

Amy Hill‘s lush oil paintings are wryly based on Giuseppe Arcimboldo, who created strange heads made of fruits, vegetables, flowers, books, etc. Hill’s homages are constructed of pills, bling, junk food. Curated by Kathleen Vance.

Xiao Wang‘s paintings explore issues of assimilation and isolation and status as outsider and observer. Curated by Alejandro Jassan.

SPRING/BREAK Art Show, New York City’s curator-driven art fair, resumes its mission to offer free exhibition space in order to foster exploratory exhibitions in atypical art environments.
